Russet up some grub!

Russet Apple "Doctors are allergic to me"
Ever wonder why they keep the doctors away?
Holy Pants it's September already!!!

Well that aside, all is well and my favourite apple (the russet) is back in season, if you haven't ever tried one I highly recommend it! All the more reason to celebrate with a new doodle, or newdle if you will (i prefer newdle, sounds like noodles).

Anyway, enough of my foolish jibber-jabber, I command you all to carry on enjoying your weekends! I'll be back with a newdle very soon! 'Tis a promise!
Bushels of fun!

Movie Snacks

Cat, hunting a spider, hunting a mosquito, biting a person, eating popcorn. The food chain isn't always linear!
Movie Snacks
Good day to you all!

ALAS!!!! Those long summer evenings are coming to end, but with it disappears the swarms of insects hell-bent on eating us!!!

I decided to mark the occasion by doodling up this little sketch.
Proving to everyone that the food chain is necessarily as linear as we so often fool ourselves into believing!

I'm not very good at drawing people, I need more practice... meh... in time!!!

See you again soon! ^_^

Hola, bonjour, γεια σας, hei, kon'nichiwa, hola, ciao, hallo, and indeed HELLO!

I must admit I have neglected this poor old blog a bit in the past few weeks. For that, I am sorry!!!

I have been busy working on a few sites, including my own (can't wait to share it with the world), and have been entertaining some friends from Finland by showing them around Yorkshire! Crazy fun beer infused times!!!

I'll be doodling again soon! Just got so much to do!!!
In the meantime, please take a gander at this little graphic which I put together for my portfolio this morning!

Hope you are all having a grand ol' time in the sunshine! And don't forget to slather on that SPF 50!

INVADERS!

AARGH!

An INVADER! Possibly from space?

With a rather exciting E3 coming to a close, and some amazing announcements having been made, I decided to draw something based on one of my favourite activities...YES!!! Playing video games!!!

Well I've been meaning to draw one of these for a while now, was just trying to think of a way of doing it and making it interesting, and watching videos of next gen gorgeousness this week inspired me to revamp this classic anti hero character!

Using adobe Illustrator, firstly I created a flat vector image by drawing out large solid coloured squares (over-sized pixels), and created the classic Space Invader shape. Then using the 3D bevel tools I turned the flat object into a 3D Vector shape.

I transferred this over to Photoshop where I applied all sorts of texture magic and lighting effects. And here you have it!

I love video games, I grew up with them and they continue to be an inventive and artistic influence on my life.

Right! Have a great weekend everyone!

WELCOME TO JUNE
Albeit 3 days into the month!!!

And regardless of the fact that solstice isn't until the 21st I am officially declaring British Summer time!!!
(Basically because we've had a few days of sun and I don't expect it to last).

Today sees the launch of a little series of doodles, based around the theme of "Phrases I misunderstood when I was a kid".

Yeah, we've all had a few, quite often an adult says something which they think is perfectly normal, and your amazing little brain conjured up entirely the wrong images to put to the words. So I decided to share some of the better (sillier) ones with you!

On that note, I have to go to college now and be a mature student (learn more technical and advanced ways of making my daft creations come to life).

Peace love and pixels to you all folks!
(and *bear with me on that big announcement still to come)
*Pun intended

I remember that night...

Hello and welcome!

For the last few weeks I've been collecting textures from all manner of various sources, my scanner and camera are now exhausted from all the work they have been doing! So I decided to let them rest their transistors, and create something with my new images using Photoshop!

Might even try to get this one converted into a greetings card! Why not let me know what you think? There is a comment section below, and I'd love to have your feedback, failing that you can email me your thoughts instead!

I'm off to buy some carrots now! And probably take more photos of interesting (debatable) things!

See you all again next week!

Peace, love, and paperclips!

Petaloid Android

A big friendly looking robot with an LCD smiley face.

Hello and welcome to you all!

Today I bring you a doodle of something which I had been meaning to do for a while! Who doesn't love a big robot after all???

Introducing the new P3R-C1 Handyman, Fully Automated Domestic Assistant Bot! So often in modern culture robots are portrayed as mindless destroyers, I am aiming to change that (Though there is also a home defense model available, not mentioned on this particular flyer).

He started life as a biro sketch on a piece of brown paper at about 11:30pm one night last week, oh and just in case any of you were wondering...
Petaloid [ˈpɛtəˌlɔɪd]
adj resembling a petal, esp in shape.
^owing to the shape of the outer shell casing which was entirely inspired by the orchid sat on my windowsill!

Right! I've got loads to do! But I'll see you again tomorrow! Fun stuff on the horizon (And I promise I won't keep you hanging on that big news I was going on about the other day on this page.

In the mean-time,
Be nice to robots!
Ta Ta for now!

Aww dear...

Remember your first few days back at school? New books, new bag, new outlook, and most importantly...
BEAUTIFUL SHINY NEW STATIONERY

Remember lending your gorgeous brand new plastic ruler to your friend and wincing as they bent it into an unnatural curve, the tension building inside you, as he/she reassures you that "It's OK! It's SHATTER RESISTANT!"
Then...SNAP!!!!

Guess you'll be spending the rest of that term using a sellotaped ruler and creating straight lines with a notch in them... bah!

Time for cake!

Howdy doodly do!
And a marvelous day it is too!
Well It's been a busy few weeks, but I'm very glad to say that I will at least be posting up a few doodles in the forthcoming days!

This one was inspired entirely by the wise words of my girlfriend after a long walk underneath the Yorkshire weather "I'm ready for cake".

There is something to be said about spending a day outdoors in the cold and knowing that there is a spongy cake and a cup of tea waiting to be consumed at home!

Oh and also, something pretty huge is happening behind the scenes here (but I can't talk about it any more than that!), don't worry I'll keep you posted!

HELLO!

So today I bring to you a wee doodle which I drew on a piece of paper about a week ago, finally digitised and reworked into something that loks presentable!

I wasn't entirely sure what to call it, it was a close call between "Internet Chat" and the title you see above, which will no doubt ring bells for those of you whom are fans of the TV series with a similar name! Just a coincidence but a good one! :)

It's a wonderful sunny day, so I'm going to spend the rest of it destroying grass with a flymo (naturally).

Have a great evening folks! Grab a cornetto while it's still sunny outside!

Simple maths!

Click on the image to BIGIFY it!!!

Today I ate the last two slices of bread we had left in the freezer, such a shame!

As tribute to them, today's doodle is combination of both food and relationship education (you can't say I never spoil you).

I'm going away this weekend to enjoy the further reaches of my county and spend some down time with my amazing girly and some good friends! Happy times, board games, good food and hopefully decent weather!

And if you happen to be having a bit of an off day, losing a bit of hope, I'll leave you with this quote:

"If they can make penicillin out of mouldy bread,
they can sure make something out of you." Muhammad Ali

Have fun out there peeps!

The Moon and the Stars

A bright crescent moon glows amid a bed of twinkling stars.

It's daytime still!
So here' a picture of the sky in the middle of the night! Of course!

Well actually I was planning on posting this one up yesterday evening, but the laws of sod had their little way and I ended up sat on the sofa unconscious with a migraine. Blech!

I was inspired to do this after a rather lovely experience I had two nights ago. I could see a glare through the gap in my front room curtains, so i went to see what it was and to my surprise it was a glorious crescent moon, not the headlights of a taxi which was dazzling the left field of my vision from the sofa!

What a lovely surprise!
And also what a fantastic little experiment with lighting and gradient usage!

Anyway, lots to do! So...see you later!

Monday 15 April 2013

Rawr...

A cute little brown fuzzy monster saying "Rawr..."

Now...
I know that not much of the recent content I've posted up on here can really be classed as "doodles", so I aimed to rectify that today by drawing a wee monster using only some basic brushing techniques, and minimal production/effects.

He only took me a couple of minutes and you know what, I love this little guy! I think I'm going to call him Rawr... (the dots are part of the name, don't miss them out or you'll offend him!)

I've got a lot of work on at the moment, which is brilliant! but it does mean that the doodle flow has been somewhat slower. Perhaps I should keep on doing things like this? Hmmm....

In other Doodlenews, it appears that I may be starting on animation at college tonight!!! I'm buzzing at the thought of the insane things I might be able to dream up with that particular skill under my belt (what an odd phrase).

Anyway! New week, new fun!
Peace love n' Pixels to you all!

Mr Bean! (No not that one!)

Mr Bean (Not the Rowan Atkinson one), a very classy coffee bean indeed!

This morning I decided to write a poem, it went like this:

Forever shall I be in awe,

When dark recedes from new-days shore,
What titillates olfaction pure?
'Tis from the morning ground.

Such heaven in the lavish sound,
As downpour freshens earthen mound,
Each drop upon its great rebound...
Makes King of mornings aptly crowned!

I asked my friends and family on Facebook to see if they could guess what I was on about.
My mum answered correctly, and so for no apparent reason, I decided to go and draw a classy coffee bean as a gesture of my appreciation for those who took the time to read my work!

Once again, thank you all very much! You make me feel rather wonderful!

I've had a lot of work to do recently which is why I haven't been doodling much, but I hope to rectify this as I will soon be starting to write a book (which is a children's book and therefore mainly made up of pictures).

For now, i bid thee farewell, and I hope that you all have the BEST of weekends!

Caffeine infused wishes,
Your pal Nick!

Happy Eastarrrrr

Pirate Easter bunny

I felt like hand drawing something today.
With tomorrow being Good Friday, I decided to Piratise  (new word) the Easter Bunny. Makes sense right? Well perhaps it doesn't, but at least it makes for an interesting variation from the norm!

I am positively  **EXPLODING** with excitement at the thought of returning to college after the Easter bank holiday cluster. Why you ask? FLASH!!! Nope, not Gordon, and not getting naked, but the animation software! I've been wanting to learn how to use it since forever, and that is just what I will be doing as from April!

Anyway, I'm off to have some holiday now! See you all again very soon! Being the social superstar that I am, I will be taking my laptop with me!

TTFN!

Familiar Face

Batman, The Dark Knight, The Caped Crusader
Police medic: (to dazed criminal) "What was the last thing you remember seeing?"

I drew Batman!

Not really much more to say, I've always been a fan of the Bat, definitely my fave of all the comic book heroes! He's appeared so many times, in so many different styles! And I enjoyed pretty much everything I've ever read or seen with the famous Dark Knight (yes that also includes the Adam West series!!!)

Obviously I have to tell you that I do not have the rights to the character, this is purely a piece of fan art and I'm not going to try and make any money off it etc etc!

In any case, hope you like it! It was a very quick sketch and an interesting experiment with lighting and shading techniques.

Rear Window

An illustrated perception of the view from my home in West Yorkshire. Overlooking green hills and houses on top of steep hills.

Well it took me a little longer than I would have liked, but here it is, as I promised. A more colourful and some might say atmospherically lighter doodle (than the previous few).

It is a slightly modified version of the view from my office (dining room table if I'm being totally honest). You can't quite capture the depth of the real view by drawing it with 2d vectors and flat colours, but I didn't want to create a photographic reproduction. After all if that were the case I'd have taken a photo!

I was going to add more detail but felt that I didn't want to saturate the picture with too many features. For me this was an exercise in depth, layering and scale. There is very little going on in the way of perspective, I'll save that for another day!

Tuesday 5 March 2013

Giant Worm!!!

Dark Worm giant bug monster hairy toothy grr

Well folks it is going to be another eventful few weeks!
I've got tonnes to do and no time to get it done, (but that doesn't mean it can't be fun).

After posting up the Butterflies at Sunset image a few days back I felt the need to experiment a little bit more with silhouette styling, and brushing techniques. I came up with something a lot darker, but not without its charm! (Weird bug-like hairy charm).

Next time I'll probably create something with a little bit more colour, but for now, please enjoy the dark worm in all his toothy glory!

Butterfly Sunset

Butterflies, sunset, grassy, twilight, evening, summer, sillhouette

Good day to you all!

Today's artwork was entirely inspired by the beautiful weather which has been warming up the UK (albeit by one or two degrees C) for the past few days.

I love summer evenings, the grassy scent in the air, the occasional waft of a BBQ cooking bangers, the late nights, and the warmth. I can tell you all that attempting to spend an evening outside after a sunny winter Yorkshire day, definitely does not reflect these feelings, but it did make me yearn for them!

So it took me a while to put this image together, it is one my most complex Photoshop creations to date using no less than 36 layers, but I feel it was truly worth the effort! Experimentation with blur effects and various brush techniques have paid off, and I really love looking at this picture. Makes me feel very relaxed indeed!

I hope that you all have superb weekends! I've got a lot of web designing to crack on with, so it's going to be a busy (but productive) one I feel!
